Kurutz, The California Gold Rush 112:

Like many guidebooks for Europeans, this pamphlet gives general information on California’s physical features, history, and “Notes for Emigrants” on the gold discovery. The portion on California’s gold riches consists primarily of an article reprinted from the Koelner Zeitung of January 14, 1849, which in turn summarizes R. B. Mason and others. The guide mentions the many German settlers in the Sacramento Valley and speaks proudly of Captain Sutter.
