[4], 450, [2], xlviii (ads) pp., 3 folding maps, 2 folding charts, 2 plates, text illustrations (mostly after photographs). 8vo, original three-quarter black roan over burgundy pebble cloth, gilt-lettered spine, raised bands, marbled endpapers. A very fine copy.

     First edition. Cowan II, p. 46. Norris 262. Rocq 16747. Not in Swanson. This book purports to survey all aspects of California’s mineral wealth and includes two chapters on the petroleum industry (with a photograph of crowded oil rigs in Los Angeles) and one on the copper industry. Among other topics considered are surveys of each appropriate county, mining organizations, machinery, and the University of California’s College of Mining. The ads contain documentary illustrations and photographs of many types of mining machines in use at the time, mining scenes, logging operations, and establishments such as the Del Monte and Palace Hotels.
