370.     [MAP]. VICTORIA, TEXAS. Untitled survey manuscript map of Victoria, Texas, in ink and pencil on thin paper, showing the town proper, railroad, Main Street, and with property of the J.O. Wheeler family shown. N.p., n.d. [nineteenth-century, after 1860]. Sheet size: 19.5 x 23.5 cm. Old pencil computations on verso, three browned spots at lower part of map, otherwise good.

     The emphasis of this humble little map is the Wheeler family properties northwest of the town of Victoria. Wheeler (1813-1867) arrived in Victoria in 1840 and quickly became involved in efforts against Native Americans, participating in the Battle of Plum Creek. He became of one the wealthiest men in Texas. See Handbook of Texas Online.
