In 1817, U.S. writer Henry Marie Brackenridge (1786-1871) was sent to South America to study political conditions. This pamphlet, which supports recognizing the independence of Spain and Portugal’s former colonies in South America, is a precursor of the Monroe Doctrine. ($30-60) |
