Approximately 200 unnumbered pp., frontispiece portrait, plates. 8vo, original gilt-lettered maroon cloth. Very fine, with typed letter from Toepperwein's revealing that J. Evetts Haley paid $50.00 for his copy of this book in 1950.

     First edition, limited edition, cloth bound issue (50 copies issued in leather, 11 in cloth). Not in CBC. First edition, very limited edition. Scarce. Transcription of Brown's diary covering the years 1873 through 1877, including his trip from San Saba to San Antonio and observations on Texans: “More deceitful people in Texas than anywhere I've been—every man for himself, and everybody trying to steal from or cheat his neighbor” (p. 22). Rhinehart Brown was the father of Herman Brown, founder of Brown & Root (Handbook of Texas Online: Herman Brown).
