[i-iii] iv, [5] 6-256 pp., 7 plates (included in pagination), lithograph frontispiece and title on heavy paper with beautiful contemporary hand-coloring. 32mo (11.7 x 7.5 cm), original embossed red gilt-decorated cloth, spine gilt lettered and decorated; worn and stained; moderate browning and foxing through p. 130, pp. 73/74 torn at top (no loss).

First edition. Garrett & Goodwin, p. 232.

Worth’s activities in the Mexican-American War cover pp. 67-198, although a substantial amount of that coverage includes the siege of Veracruz, wherein Worth was the first American soldier ever to make an amphibious landing. Wool’s biography starts on p. 199 and basically consists of Taylor’s March 6, 1847, and a report on the Battle of Buena Vista.
