THE MONSIGNOR FRANCIS J. WEBER COLLECTION OF BERNHARDT WALL

A.3.4. The Etcht Miniature Monthly Magazine

WALL, Bernhardt. [The Etcht Miniature Monthly Magazine]. [Sierra Madre, January-December 1948]. 12 issues. 386 miniature etchings. Various colored inks. 4.5 x 4 cm. (1-3/4 x 1-5/8 inches), wove paper. Contemporary hand-bound red gilt-ruled calf, spines and upper covers with gilt lettering (Miniature Monthly), inner gilt dentelles. Preserved in a maroon cloth slipcase.

Limited edition (#35 of 60 signed sets). Weber, p. 58. In the prospectus for this rare miniature periodical (see item 70001322), Wall states: "This magazine is my latest, and mayhap, my last toil in the field of periodical publishing. At my age [75 years] such a venture may seem foolhardy. I hate rest and rust. Hence, I go on. Having eyesight, a pair of healthy hands, and a head full of ideas, and memories of contacts with famous persons, it would be a shame not to utilize this latent material to some good mutual purpose. I contract to issue 12 numbered in 1948. The edition will be limited to 60 numbered & signed subscriptions, which will be my capacity to carry out... The subject matter will be about well-known personages, bits of text, and spots where history was made... Bernhardt Wall, The Etcher of Books." Missing one text leaf from the August issue. 70000124
