D. ORIGINAL ETCHED COPPER PLATES

WALL, Bernhardt. Collection of 34 original etched copper plates containing 98 images—all but one of the images are miniatures—(58 illustrations, 40 text). A wide number of subjects are represented, including title-pages, etcher's device, ornamental frames, limitation leaves, portraits, missions, architecture, cowboys, etc. The plates and images are as follows:

Single plate for portrait:

     DARD HUNTER | Wall 1928

12.5 x 7.5 cm. (5 x 3 inches). The plate appeared in Vol. 1, No. 2 (November 1928) issue of the Etched Monthly.

18 x 3.5 cm. (7 x 1-1/4 inches). The image appeared as a separate as well as in issue no. 5 (February 1929) of The Etched Monthly and The Odyssey of the Etcher of Books Sierra Madre, 1945).

Single untitled plate [ornate ornamental frame border]. 7.5 x 6.5 cm. (3 x 2-1/2 inches). Wall generally used this and the following frame borders as frames for miniature etchings in order to make full-size books.

Each image 4.5 x 3 cm. (1-5/8 x 1-1/4 inches). The first image was used as the title-page for the miniature edition of The Californian Missions (Sierra Madre, 1948), and the second image was used by Wall as his tailpiece.

Each image 4.5 x 3 cm. (1-5/8 x 1-1/4 inches). The images appeared in the Etcht Miniature Monthly Magazine (Sierra Madre, August 1948). Etched at bottom: "BERNHARDT WALL SIERRA MADRE CALIF."

In margins: 3 etchings for spine labels or cover titles of Capitols of the Southern States, and "ETCHT PRINTED & BOUND BY BERNHARDT WALL."

WALL, Bernhardt. 2 original etched copper plates containing 15 miniature images (10 illustrations, 4 text, one text with etcher's device). Each image measures 4.5 x 3 cm. (1-3/4 x 1-1/4 inches).
