Rear pastedown with small blue printed label of Thumler & Rutherford, San Francisco bookbinders (listed in 1903 San Francisco Telephone Book).

    First edition. Cowan II, p. 148. Norris 885. Rocq 16791. Wheat, Books of the California Gold Rush 52: “Many pictures of the gold Rush period.” Coy comments in this introduction: “Every picture has been carefully selected for both historical accuracy and pictorial value. An explanatory text with each picture greatly adds to its value. Many of the old contemporary pictures of early California are not to be found elsewhere.
