Also, Counties, Islands, Lakes & Rivers, Together with Every Post Office, Railroad Station or Town, Carefully Indexed, Referring to the Exact Location where each may be found on the Map. Chicago: Rand, McNally & Co., Printers and Engravers, 77 and 79 Madison Street, n.d. [ca. 1878]. 23 [5] pp., wax-engraved map with original green outline color, mounted on later cartographical linen: Rand, McNally & Co.’s Quebec. (neat line to neat line: 32.2 x 48.5 cm), inset at upper left of Gulf of St. Lawrence. Pocket map and guide folded into original blind-embossed brown cloth covers (15.3 x 8.7 cm) gilt lettered on upper cover: Rand McNally & Co’s. Index Map of Quebec Province of Canada. Advertisement leaf affixed to verso of upper cover: Map Publications of Rand, McNally & Co. Covers lightly rubbed with a few small voids along lower joint. Map with a few tiny losses. With purple ink stamp of J. L. Smith, Map Publisher of Philadelphia on title page and face of map.

            A somewhat early imprint of Rand, McNally, who copyrighted it in 1878 and who had begun issuing cartographical publications in 1872, rapidly expanding afterwards, as the extensive advertising lists included here make evident. The emphasis of the guide and map are roads, railroads, towns, and waterways. This publication was apparently aimed at the business person who had dealings with Quebec. ($100-300)
