First edition. This image is used in the Encyclopedia of the Mexican-American War, Vol. 2, p. 440.

The action depicted is believed to be the storming of Independence Hill, which the Americans carried on September 22, 1846, a victory that basically forced Ampudia from the field and into Monterrey itself.
